Faced with an impossible choice, Anne Marlowe is torn between her love for her husband and the hope of her father’s forgiveness. As the American forces follow up on their tide-turning victories over the British at Freeman’s Farm and Bemis Heights, Peter is drawn inextricably deeper into the shady network of espionage that could cost them both their lives.

Is his commitment to the Rebel cause stronger than his hard-won love for Anne? Will her sacrifice tear them apart again...this time forever? Or will they find the peace and happiness they both seek in a new beginning?

The Partisan’s Wife follows Anne and Peter through the war torn landscape of Revolutionary War America, from the Battle of Saratoga to New York, Philadelphia and beyond.

This story begins in September 1777.

Peter Marlowe, an Englishman accused of a crime he did not commit, is an officer in The American Patriot army. He is married to Lady Anne Darvey, the estranged daughter of the Marquess of Easterleigh.

The author has described the setting and the time vividly. Being an Australian, I know little about this war, but the treachery, betrayal, and not knowing who was friend or foe quickly ensnared me. Peter was a brave officer, prepared to risk all for the cause. Anne was more headstrong than brave, but she made an impression on me. No simpering lady this one. Desperate to find her father and repair the damage to their relationship she is prepared to sacrifice everything even Peter. Peter is prepared to sacrifice everything for his beliefs.
Tony Granville, Anne's cousin, starts out as a drunken card sharp, but redeems himself in my eyes when he helps her out of a dangerous situation. By the end of the story, I found him to be quite heroic.
Dark family secrets, betrayal, and an array of interesting characters, make this an exciting read. Can't wait to read the next two books in the series

The Partisan Wife The Serpent Tooth Book 3 edition by Kathy FischerBrown Literature Fiction eBooks Reviews

DISCLAIMER I received a complimentary ARC of The Partisan's Wife from GoddessFish in return for my honest review. This does not in any way reflect upon my review. All thoughts/opinions of this novel are 100% my own.

When I signed up to do this review, I was unaware that this was actually the third part in the series. I was originally drawn to the Revolutionary War aspect of the novel. Instead of backing out, I forged ahead through the book anyway so that I could write an honest review of this particular book and not the trilogy as a whole.

The being said.....

I absolutely loved this book! The attention to detail was incredible - it was obvious that the author spent a great deal of time on her research. From the actions and speech patterns of her characters to the way the settings were depicted, I could feel like I was living during the Revolutionary War, watching the story as it unfolded.
I was completely caught up in her words, at time unable to get to sleep at my normal time because I found myself not wanting to put down my kindle. I had to know what was going to happen next! Her characters were well developed each with their own interests and driving factors. And there was (in my opinion) a perfect balance of the different classes - some were loyalists, while others were rebels, and while others still were simply opportunists willing to support whichever side they believed could give them the best outcome.

I could go on and on (literally) about this novel, but I don't want to spoil it for anyone, so I guess you're just going to have to read it for yourself!
The ending reminded me of The Giver. I filled in the blanks beyond the unknown at the end. It was a good summer read.
This was by far one of the best books I've read this year. I hate reviews that give a story away - but I will say it this story gave me thrills and unexpected turns that was unexpected and entertaining. I would recommend it to anyone wanting a great read!
It is a wonderful story of people dealing (and not dealing) with war in America. There are some grammatical issues, but over all a believable story. I did enjoy it.
Beautifully written, wonderful story which brings my faith back that great literature can be successful without excessive violence. You must read the trilogy and find out for yourself. I could not put these books down. I will feel lost when I finish reading The Partisan's Wife; may do something I never do, and just re-read them all. Bravo Kathy Fischer-Brown!

P.S. Don't forget to read her other book, "Winter Fire".
I wasn't certain I would like this book based on the title, but it was an enjoyable read. It's worth the time, and many romances out there right now simply are not worth the effort.
This is the last installment of a trilogy set in the 18th Century, which begins in Britain and ends in the depths of the American Revolutionary War. No mistake about it, "The Partisan's Wife" is a no-holds-barred historical novel. The research is impeccable; the characters act and speak in tune with their times. From the drawing rooms of England to the hardships and perils of a frontier farm lying in the path of two warring armies, the reader will be drawn into the sights, smells and sounds of the time. Here we have the touch of lindsey-woolsey, the smell of black powder, or of a warm bucket of fresh milk carried through new fallen snow on a winter morning--as well as a grand, moving story about love and destiny.

Espionage comes to the fore in the last novel as the hero, Peter, plays this most deadly of games for the sake of his adopted American Cause. Reunited at last though the lovers are, they will again be torn apart by circumstances, by twists of fate and fortunes of war, and, not least, by their very 18th Century conceptions of personal honor. Echoes of great writers from the period abound here, but this modern tale moves fast and is always inventive. The characters, drawn from all classes--loyalists, rebels, opportunists, the cruel, the mad and the kind--are crisply drawn and always believable. I'd recommend "The Partisan's Wife" particularly to any reader who enjoys the period, or a thoroughly researched historical set in any time. You won't be disappointed.
